Battle
over a water treatment plant on Laketown lakeshore
Chicago Tribune
- 7/28
New developments in a longtime battle over
a plan to build a water treatment plant along the lakeshore.
The city of Holland and Laketown Township want to trade land north
of Saugatuck for some property in the Saugatuck Dunes State Park.
They want to build the plant there, to offset the capacity levels
they expect to reach in 2008.
The state said no to the offer last year,
but they're reworking the deal. Meantime, environmentalists are
still fighting it.
"West Michigan needs more places like
SDSP - we are a coastal community without municipal boundaries.
That's why we live here," David Swan, co-founder of the group
'Concerned Citizens for Saugatuck Dunes State Park' told FOX 17
News.
His group is holdng a public forum Ttuesday
night at 7:00 at Gibson Christian Reformed Chu.
