A sign
of the summer:
water restrictions are here
Chicago Tribune
- 6/24
Water
restrictions are in effect for much of Kent and Ottawa County.
The
City of Wyoming announced Tuesday that the Ottawa County townships
of Park, Holland, Zeeland, Olive, Blendon, Jamestown, and Georgetown
are on an odd-even watering schedule. That means odd-numbered
houses can only water on odd-numbered days and so on.
Also effected is the City of Hudsonville.
In
Kent County, Byron-Gaines Township, the City of Grandville and
the City of Wyoming are also on the odd-even format.
The
City of Kentwood has a complete ban because of repairs to their
system and have been using Wyoming's.
The
rest of the areas are also customers of Wyoming, and are low on
water because of construciton delays during the replacement of
three of their lakeshore pumps.
"There
have been some problems at the tail end of the construction activity
that have delayed by a couple of weeks those pumps becoming operational,"
said Joseph Stapf, Director of Utilities.
The
dry weather means more people are watering and that puts a huge
strain on the system.
"On
an average day we pump about 35 million gallons," said Stapf.
"Yesterday we pumped just under 82 million gallons, the difference
is lawn sprinkling."
Reserves
are down about 40 percent, but with a restriction they say things
should be back to normal in 3 to 5 days.
