Sewer
work costs soar
Sun News - 5/15
Costs
for the Aurora Road West sewer project continue to soar
and they may climb even higher before it's finished.
Last
week, City Council approved another change order for the work.
The city will pay Chaney Cement Contractors Inc., a Garfield Heights
firm, $227,383 to rebuild and repave Parkside Trail.
On
May 7, council's Public Works Committee authorized another $60,500
in engineering fees for CT Consultants Inc. of Cleveland.
Those
adjustments push the total price tag from the original $6.08 million
bid to $6.67 million, an increase of 9.7 percent.
Red
flags usually start flying once a project exceeds its original
cost by 10 percent.
Even
worse, the contractor Terrace Construction Co. Inc.
has asked for another $97,000 in change orders. If all are approved,
the project cost would rise to $6.76 million, or 11.3 percent
over the original bid.
