La Grange water mains
to be replaced

Chicago Tribune - 4/9

Fire hydrant pressure and some village sidewalks will be improved through a project funded by the village and the Army Corps of Engineers.

The project includes the replacement and reconfiguration of 1,700 feet of water main on 54th Street and the 1000 block of Kensington Avenue.

A portion of mains also will be replaced just south of Spring Avenue School on 50th Street and Spring Avenue.

Assistant Village Manager Robert Pilipiszyn said sidewalks located above the affected mains also would be replaced.

The village will pay $66,250 of the anticipated $265,000 total, Pilipiszyn said. The remainder will be paid through an Army Corps of Engineers grant secured by Public Works Director Ken Watkins.

The mains, which were installed in the 1950s and 60s, have been losing pressure due to development in the area and to years of wear, Watkins said.

Construction is expected to begin in June and be completed in August.
