Fox River
group gets village funds

WAYNE
-- The Wayne Village Board this week agreed to support the Fox
River Study Group, which is working with the Illinois Environmental
Protection Agency to promote and preserve Fox River watershed
and enhance the quality of the river.
Since
its first meeting in 2001, the group has secured a $160,000 grant
from the state EPA for a water survey, initiated biweekly meetings
at seven sites on the Fox River and petitioned former Gov. George
Ryan to consider $526,000 in watershed initiative funding.
The
group is seeking $1.4 million over the next five years. The program
requires 25 percent from local funds to match a federal watershed
initiative.
Village
Clerk Patti Engstrom said the village would most likely use money
in its general fund to pay its cost, which is just more than $500.
