Water company sued by state

Daily Southtown - 1/29

A private Joliet water company has been sued by state regulators for allegedly failing to maintain its system and provide customers with an adequate water supply.

The lawsuit against Oakview Avenue Water Works, which serves about 300 customers through 109 water hookups, was filed Friday in Will County Circuit Court by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan.

The attorney general's office started investigating the company after customers reported low water pressure in July 2001, Madigan said in a news released. Oakview Avenue Water Works agreed to construct additional storage capacity to comply with state regulations, but Madigan said the company has not complied. The company is required to have a minimum of 10,815 gallons of storage, but the capacity for the company is 240 gallons, Madigan said.

The lawsuit also accused the company of not fluoridating its water supply.

Officials from Oakview Avenue Water Works could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
