Soil, water district seeks directors

Star Newspapers - 1/2

Two Will/South Cook Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) directors will be elected in a nominating and election process. A ballot election will be held during the district's annual meeting in Peotone. The meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m., at the Peotone Atrium, 710 S. West St.

All persons who own or occupy land that is included within the boundaries of the Will/South Cook SWCD and are of legal voting age, are eligible to run for the Board of Directors. The governing body of the SWCD consists of five directors, who are owners or occupiers of lands within the district in which they serve. Each director will serve a term of two years. District board meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month. The responsibilities of the directors consist of program management, financial management, personnel management and legislation. Directors are required to chair or serve on the various district committees, such as Education Committee.

Other interested persons are encouraged to serve as associate directors for the district. Serving as an associate director can serve as training to become a SWCD director. Associate directors also provide additional advice, input, perspective and manpower to the SWCD Board. For further information call the District office at (815) 462-3106 and select 3.
