Springing a leak

For the last several years, an alliance existed between Lake County and each of the cities. But it's a water alliance that sprang a leak in recent weeks. The county is now the latest organization to bow out. (News 13 Orlando)

Getting it right

When scientists discuss Everglades restoration, one phrase pops up again and again — "getting the water right." In March 2005, things got easier. A modeling system called the Everglades Depth Estimation Network, or EDEN, went online. The system provides daily estimates of water depth and other information for most of the Everglades. Now, a UF study verifies that EDEN's estimates are accurate. (UF News)

DEP's green tip contest
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has kicked off its first green tip contest in preparation for National Pollution Prevention Week 2009, Sept. 21–27. Participants can submit their favorite green tip to DEP for a chance to win a free green cleaning kit and have their tip featured on the department's redesigned green Web site. Entries must be no more than 200 words. Deadline is Oct. 31; a winner will be announced Nov. 6.
