Martinez looks to enhance water supply
(Contra Costa Times, 8/20) "When

of Madeleine Clark's proposed alternatives to California
American Water's Coastal Water Project are either
presumptuous or naive. Most of the water sources she
mentioned in her recent commentary belong to others. Four of
her proposed alternatives to Cal Am's proposed desalination
plans are simply illegal. "
Cal Am's aquifer EIR to be considered
(Monterey Herald, 8/19) "Certification
of a final environmental impact report for California
American Water's aquifer storage and recovery project, which
would store excess winter and spring flows in the Carmel
River for injection into the Seaside Water Basin, will be
considered by the Monterey Peninsula Water Management
District at its meeting Monday. "
White pine county: Crossing
waterline
(Las Vegas Review-Journal, 8/19) "There
is less than a month to go before a decisive state hearing
on plans to pipe water to Las Vegas from White Pine County,
and Southern Nevada Water Authority General Manager Pat
Mulroy says she is finished being subtle. "
LV's
growth will stop in 2013 without water
(Las Vegas Sun, 8/19) "Las
Vegas has run out of options for water and will see growth
pinched off in seven to 10 years unless plans are approved
to pump ground water south from rural White Pine County, a

considered

was too soon to tell how the discovery of radioactive
groundwater at the San Onofre nuclear power plant would
affect their thinking about building a plant there to turn
seawater into drinking water. "
Supes: Mule Creek Prison polluting groundwater
(Amador Ledger-Dispatch, 8/19) "The
state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation wants to
add 400 more inmates to its prison at Mule Creek State
Prison in Ione, but the ones who are already there generate
so much wastewater that the prison is contaminating the
area's groundwater. "
USGS gives private-well quality findings
(USGS, 8/19) "USGS
scientists evaluated a range of inorganic and organic
contaminants in domestic wells from every state and Puerto
Rico. "
Arsenic, nitrates, atrazine plague
private wells
(WaterWeek, 8/19) "Water
quality monitoring data from thousands of domestic wells
across the United States indicate that the top contaminants
found include three organic pesticides, with arsenic and
nitrate topping the list of contaminants exceeding their
federal drinking water standards. "
San Clemente shuts well to confirm no danger
(OC Register, 8/17) "The
city's only operating municipal well has been closed until
test results can confirm it is untainted by a radioactive
