Hitchhiking pike worry game official (Sacramento Bee, 5/24) "The saber-toothed northern pike has ruled the food chain at Lake Davis since it was introduced illegally in 1994. State officials, environmentalists and anglers have worried ever since that the fish will get out and destroy California's native fish." Trinity River higher than ever before (Eureka Times Standard, 5/24) "The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, which was monitoring the river -- especially upstream from Douglas City near Weaverville -- didn't notice any problems. They cut the flows back to 8,500 cfs, but by Tuesday had ramped them back up to 10,000 cfs.
