"The San Diego County Water Authority continued to assess repairs needed on Pipeline 3, an untreated water pipeline that failed May 16 in Mission Trails Regional Park." —  Surface Water Adoption of Shasta River plan stalled (Siskiyou Daily News, 5/23) "A plan by the California Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) to impose restrictions on users of the waters of the Shasta River was not adopted by the RWQCB Board last week. The issue of water quality in the Shasta River will remain unchanged, at least until the end of June." Permit on Delta draws dispute (Contra Costa Times, 5/23) "Seven months after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger swept aside members of a state panel who were slowing housing construction, the new members of the state Reclamation Board granted a key permit to an 11,000-unit subdivision in the Delta over the objections of its lawyer and chief engineer." Group forms to buoy Delta tourism (Davis Enterprise, 5/23) "The Sacramento Delta covers 738,000 acres across five counties with hundreds of miles of waterways. It also is home to tight-knit communities like Clarksburg, Locke and Rio Vista - towns rich in history that offer boating, fishing, ecotourism, wine-tasting and, yes, even love." —  Floodwater and Levees Levee agency rethinks housing vote (Sacramento Bee, 5/23) "The state Reclamation Board plans to reconsider an April vote that moved toward allowing luxury homes to be built on top of levees on a Delta island." Suit filed over plan to build homes in flood zone (San Francisco Chronicle, 5/23) "Four environmental groups on Monday appealed a California agency's approval of a huge levee to protect part of a proposed 11,000-home development in the flood-prone Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, saying the decision was made illegally and will put thousands of residents at risk." A plan for levees in Natomas basin (Sacramento Bee, 5/23) OPINION. "It's easy to identify a problem. The tough part is crafting a solution that works. My first day in Congress in 1999 included a discussion about how to improve the level of flood protection in my district in general and Sacramento in particular. Ripon decision on water rates delayed (Stockton Record, 5/24) "Questions about how the city asked residents to weigh in on a possible water-rate hike postponed a council decision on the increase." "A stamp depicting the Department of Water Resources’ Oroville Dam will be unveiled at the dam on Saturday, May 27 by the U.S. Postal Service.
