Doubled up

California's snowpack has jumped to 29 percent of normal, thanks to the largest storm so far this winter. Less than two weeks ago, the snowpack was at 12 percent. According to the state's automatic sensors, the storm focused much of its impact on the central Sierra, where the snowpack was at 36 percent of normal. KCRA Sacramento

Flood of business

California's drought could prove devastating to the state's farmers and ranchers. But the dry spell has brought a gusher of new business to companies that provide them with water. That much was clear at this year's World Ag Expo, the largest farm equipment show in the world, which kicked off Tuesday in Tulare. Los Angeles Times

Dry pattern

The worst drought ever to hit California could rival the historic 2011 drought that devastated Texas, a professor at Texas A&M University says. The worst one-year drought in the Lone Star State's history caused more than $10 billion in damages and led to numerous wildfires and lake closings.
