Great Lakes report says Lake Erie is deteriorating



Toxic chemicals in the Great Lakes have dropped but invasive species and algal blooms threaten the lakes' ecosystems and keep them from being truly great, says a new report from the U.S. and Canadian governments. The "State of the Great Lakes 2017 Highlights Report" from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and its Canadian counterparts says Lake Erie is in the worst condition.


Flint City Council delays vote on GLWA agreement

Flint's City Council is defying state and federal government officials, as well as the city’s mayor, and is putting off a vote on a drinking water contract for another two weeks. A master agreement includes a provision that would tie the city of Flint to the Great Lakes Water Authority for its drinking water for the next 30 years.


Bill would force White House to release carp plan

Great Lakes delegates in Congress have introduced legislation that would force the Trump administration to release a plan for stopping Asian carp from advancing beyond a key choke point in the Chicago area waterway system. An Asian carp was recently caught beyond a barrier designed to keep them out, Illinois officials said on Friday.
