The board of the Southland's water importer Tuesday voted to pursue the purchase of four farm islands in the Delta. Officials at the Metropolitan Water District denied criticism that the move portends a land-water grab in a region long suspicious of efforts in the drier southern part of the state to gain more water from the north.
