Dam permits would be funneled through a single federal agency to speed up new water storage projects under a bill sponsored by California Republican Rep. Tom McClintock that passed the House on Thursday. GOP supporters say it's a necessary step toward alleviating droughts; most Democrats called it a "sham infrastructure bill" that takes aim at federal environmental rules.

Danish reps showcase water data-gathering tech

Runoff from the wet winter could be damaging a piece of California history — a secret archaeological site along the Sacramento River. Hundreds of Native American sites are spread along the Sacramento River. One in particular is a culturally sensitive site that the city has worked to preserve since 2005.
