Kristin Richmond of Folsom was chosen this month from among 200,000 applicants as one of 100 candidates for a project called Mars One. The 32-year-old civil engineer with the state Department of Water Resources is ready to make the ultimate sacrifice for the project, which would send human colonists to Mars by 2025.
