Delta's grim year

A severe ecological decline in the Delta worsened substantially in 2007 despite major efforts to stop it, including an unprecedented nine-day shutdown of state water deliveries in June. (Contra Costa Times)

Greka woes

Things went from bad to worse for Greka Energy this past weekend, as yet another pump failure — this time at a storage tank in the Santa Ynez Valley — sent 8,400 gallons of oil and toxic byproduct spewing into a creek at Firestone Vineyard property Jan. 5. (Santa Barbara Independent)

Soiled legacy

Prado Dam release
Friday will be the third anniversary of the Prado Dam releasing the highest flow (10,000 CFS) in its more than 60-year history. Because of OCSD’s involvement with protecting the SARI line, Chuck was on-site at the Santa Ana River on Jan. 11, 2005, and took this series of photos that show a dramatic example of a true hydraulic jump.
