Water report

A specialized cart was lowered by crane into the outlet tunnel at Warm Springs Dam on Thursday, part of an inspection by the Army Corps of Engineers. Although the dam is inspected annually, a more thorough checkup is conducted every five years, including going into the 2,400-foot tunnel. (Santa Rosa Press-Democrat)

The ecofriendly building includes a 2.5-acre living roof, which consists of nine species of native California plants. NPR

Thoroughly modern

A building heralded as the greenest museum in the world opens Saturday in San Francisco. The California Academy of Sciences features a living green roof with native plants, insulation made from recycled blue jeans and a large canopy of solar energy panels. (NPR)

San Clemente headworks bypass
The City of San Clemente Water Reclamation Plant is undergoing a 15 mgd bypass as part of its Headworks Influent Channel/Grit Chamber Rehabilitation and Bar Screen Replacement Project. Specifications include a 21,000-gallon Baker Tank configured with full tank height and width, manually raked half-inch opening bar screen; 18- and 24-inch piping confluence to a 30-inch influent pipe, which are fed from two line-stopped force mains; a 30-inch outlet and 12-inch effluent drain line with normally closed valve connected to primary clarifier splitter box ; and a 24-inch emergency overflow and an 18-inch tubefan-driven odor vent plumbed to the primary clarifier influent channel. The project work is being performed in three shifts 24/7 during the scheduled one-month operation.
