Winter's fury

The chance of scattered residual showers today is likely to continue a slight reprieve for the soggy Bay Area before another winter storm is expected to hit Tuesday, carrying with it the possibility of up to 2 inches of rain and more than a foot of snow in the mountains. (San Francisco Chronicle)

A sense of ownership

The Morro Bay National Estuary Program’s volunteer monitoring program is designed to improve coastal water quality. In all, the program has 10 ongoing and seasonal monitoring efforts, making the 2,300-acre Morro Bay estuary and its watershed that stretches from Morro Rock to the outskirts of San Luis Obispo one of the most studied ecosystems in the state. Prado Dam release
Friday will be the third anniversary of the Prado Dam releasing the highest flow (10,000 CFS) in its more than 60-year history. Because of OCSD’s involvement with protecting the SARI line, Chuck was on-site at the Santa Ana River on Jan. 11, 2005, and took this series of photos that show a dramatic example of a true hydraulic jump.
